about
Foreign Legion's second record Play Tight, was released on Look Records (s/o to DJ Design, Rev Underpants and Mozilla). They graciously decided to sign me to a deal and I immediately got started on recording. During one my first beat listening sessions, I came across this Jake One produced gem and I was hooked.
I LOVE me some Jake One. He's a cool cat, plays a mean game of ping-pong and always has beats that speak to me. This was during his super horn phase which always grabbed my attention (see: Just Doing My Job off Prozack's "Death, Taxes and Prozack).
Right after selecting this instrumental, I ended up getting arrested on some dumb shit and doing some time in a couple different county jails. I remember writing these lyrics in my cell at Marin County jail with the beat somewhere in the back of my mind. When I got released, I didn't go home. I went straight over to Noble House Studios and laid vocals with Gennessee. That's why I say "They couldn't hold your boy" in the beginning of the song. I was just happy to be free.
